Obviously everyone wants to know how to check if they're followed by Jalopnik and thus will be spared from the dreaded grey when it returns (NOTE: being an Oppo author means you're automatically out of the grey here even if you're not officially followed by "OppositeLock") . Go to your account settings, click Followers, and use the drop-down menu to select your name. Rally Saab for your time.

How did you guys here about the grey coming back in the first place? I haven't seen anything about it other than random posts on oppo.

I'm no longer followed by Oppo,Truck Yeah, Jalopnik or any of their writers.

and my "following" list has been completely cleared other than where I'm an author.

What gives? I thought I was one of the good guys?

The only problem I foresee is how the insane amount of subblogs will affect this.

Last time the "grey" system was around (earlier this year), I was followed by Jalopnik, but not any of it's subblogs, besides /Drive. But now there are so many of them. I don't even think Truck Yeah! was around back then.

It'd be nice if being followed by Jalopnik meant you were followed by all the subblogs in the Jalopnik blog system (anything with the URL, "[something].jalopnik.com").

I'm in the same boat. I'm not extremely active with comments, but like to be involved every once in awhile (especially when work is slow). Looks like that'll be an issue now.

There was a post on Jezebel ("What we're doing about this issue") that was shared across all GM blogs this morning. If you scroll down on Jalopnik you'll see it eventually. They're rolling out the change in the next 24 hours.

Were you followed previously by them? I don't think anyone's followers have been wiped...

Gamecat just posted this explainer - being an Oppo author is a step up from just being "followed" by Oppo, so you don't have to worry about having your comments greyed out here. As for Jalopnik, that's out of our hands. One of the writers has to make that decision.

I'm followed by lifehacker, unfortunately I never read it anymore, so that won't help here, it would be cool if there was a way to just be followed by all of the gawker sites so you don't have to be approved individually.
